The Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association (SLCFA) proudly launched the book “Sri Lanka Cheena Mithudama” (Sri Lanka China Friendship) at a ceremonious event held on 16th May 2024 at the Auditorium of the National Library and Documentation Services Board of Sri Lanka. The launch event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including the former Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, who was the keynote speaker, and His Excellency Qi Zhenhong, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka, who was the guest of honour.
Mr. Ananda Goonatilleke, Attorney-at-Law and President of the Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association, chaired the event, reflecting on the enduring relationship between Sri Lanka and China. The SLCFA, originally founded as the “Ceylon-China Friendship Union” on September 21, 1950, by the Ceylon Communist Party, stands as a pioneer in fostering people-to-people diplomatic ties between the two nations. The first president of the union was Madam Kusuma Gunawardena, mother of the current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena.
In his welcome address, Mr. Goonatilleke introduced the book’s rich content, which encompasses a wide range of topics including historical ties, Buddhist connections, diplomatic relations, literature, economic and cultural cooperation, Chinese cuisine, China’s role and support in the war that defeated the LTTE, media, philatelic interests, photography, and more. He expressed gratitude to the authors who contributed invaluable articles and acknowledged the continuous support from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka.
Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, in his keynote address, highlighted the significance of the Rice and Rubber Pact, emphasizing its role in solidifying the profound friendship between Sri Lanka and China. He commended the SLCFA for its seven-decade-long dedication to nurturing people-to-people relationships between the two countries.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the first copies of “Sri Lanka Cheena Mithudama” by Mr. Goonatilleke to Hon. Karu Jayasuriya and His Excellency Qi Zhenhong. The event also saw the presence of notable figures such as Dr. G. Weerasinghe, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka; Mr. Aruna Goonatilleke, SLCFA Executive Vice President; Vice Presidents Mr. Thilak Botheju, Mr. Daya Lankapura and Mr. Premadara Dissanayake; SLCFA office bearers and various civil society activists and members of the public.
All attendees were presented with a complimentary copy of “Sri Lanka Cheena Mithudama,” marking the occasion as a memorable celebration of the enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and China.
ශ්‍රී ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමය “ශ්‍රී ලංකා චීන මිතුදම” ග්‍රන්ථය එළිදක්වයි
ශ්‍රී ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමය (SLCFA ) විසින් “ශ්‍රී ලංකා චීන මිතුදම” සිංහල බසින් ලියැවුණු ග්‍රන්ථය සාඩම්බරයෙන් එළිදැක්වූයේ පසුගියදා ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජාතික පුස්තකාල හා ප්‍රලේඛන සේවා මණ්ඩල ශ්‍රවණාගාරයේ පැවති උත්සව අවස්ථාවකදීය. මෙම එළිදැක්වීමේ අවස්ථාවට ශ්‍රී ලංකා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ හිටපු කථානායක ගරු කරු ජයසූරිය මහතා මෙම උත්සවයේ ප්‍රධාන කථිකයා වශයෙන්ද සහ ගෞරවනීය ආරාධිත අමුත්තා වූ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මහජන චීන සමූහාණ්ඩුවේ තානාපති අතිගරු චී ෂෙන්හොංග් (Qi Zhenhong) මහතා ද සහභාගි විය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සහ චීනය අතර පවතින දිගුකාලීන සබඳතාව සවිමත් කරන ශ්‍රී ලංකා චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමයේ සභාපති නීතිඥ ආනන්ද ගුණතිලක මහතා මෙම උත්සවයේ මුලසුන දැරීය. ලංකා කොමියුනිස්ට් පක්ෂය විසින් 1950 සැප්තැම්බර් 21 වන දින “ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍රත්ව සංගමය” ලෙස මුලින් ආරම්භ කරන ලද මෙම සංගමය, අනොන්‍ය ජාතීන් හා ජනතාව අතර රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික සබඳතා පෝෂණය කිරීමේ පුරෝගාමී සංගමයකි. සංගමයේ ප්‍රථම සභාපතිනිය වූයේ වත්මන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා අග්‍රාමාත්‍ය දිනේෂ් ගුණවර්ධන මහතාගේ මව වන කුසුමා ගුණවර්ධන මැතිනියයි.
ඓතිහාසික සබඳතා, බෞද්ධ සබඳතා, රාජ්‍ය තාන්ත්‍රික සබඳතා, සාහිත්‍ය, ආර්ථික හා සංස්කෘතික සහයෝගීතාව, චීන ආහාරපාන, එල්ටීටීඊය පරාජය කළ යුද්ධයේදී චීනයේ භූමිකාව සහ සහයෝගය, මාධ්‍ය, මුද්දර, ඡායාරූපකරණය සහ තවත් දේ ඇතුළු පුළුල් පරාසයක මාතෘකා ඇතුළත් ග්‍රන්ථයේ පොහොසත් අන්තර්ගතය ගුණතිලක මහතා සිය පිළිගැනීමේ කතාවේදී හඳුන්වා දුන්නේය. ග්‍රන්ථය සදහා ඉතා වටිනා ලිපි ඉදිරිපත් කළ කතුවරුන්ට කෘතඥතාව පළ කළ ඔහු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මහජන චීන සමූහාණ්ඩුවේ තානාපති කාර්යාලයේ අඛණ්ඩ සහයෝගය අගය කළේය.
ගරු. කරු ජයසූරිය මහතා සිය ප්‍රධාන දේශනයේදී 1952 දී දෙරටේ නායකයන් විසින් අත්සන් කළ රබර් සහ සහල් ගිවිසුමේ වැදගත්කම අවධාරණය කරමින් එම ගිවිසුම ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සහ චීනය අතර පවතින ගැඹුරු මිත්‍රත්වය තහවුරු කිරීමේ කාර්යභාරයට දායක වූ ආකාරය අවධාරණය කළේය. දෙරට අතර මිනිසුන් අතර සබඳතාවයන් පෝෂණය කිරීම සඳහා දශක හතක් පුරාවට ශ්‍රී ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමයේ කැපවීම පිළිබඳව හෙතෙම ප්‍රශංසා කළේය.
ශ්‍රී ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමය සභාපති ගුණතිලක මහතා විසින් “ශ්‍රී ලංකා චීන මිතුදම” ග්‍රන්ථයේ මුල් පිටපත් ගරු කරු ජයසූරිය සහ අතිගරු චී ෂෙන්හොංග් යන මහත්වරුන්ට නිල වශයෙන් පිළිගැනීවීය. මෙම අවස්ථාවට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කොමියුනිස්ට් පක්ෂයේ ප්‍රධාන ලේකම් ආචාර්ය ජී. වීරසිංහ, ශ්‍රී ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමයේ විධායක උප සභාපති අරුණ ගුණතිලක මහතා; අනෙකුත් උප සභාපතිවරුන් වන තිලක් බොතේජු, දයා ලංකාපුර සහ ප්‍රේමදර දිසානායක යන මහත්වරුන්ද, ශ්‍රී ලංකා-චීන මිත්‍ර සංගමයේ නිලධාරී මණ්ඩලය සහ විවිධ සිවිල් සමාජ ක්‍රියාකාරීන් ඇතුළු විශාල පිරිසක් මෙම උත්සවයට පැමිණ සිටියහ.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සහ චීනය අතර පවතින කළ්‍යාන මිත්‍රත්වයේ අමතක නොවන සැමරුම ලෙස මෙම අවස්ථාව සනිටුහන් කරමින් සහභාගි වූ සියලුම දෙනාට “ශ්‍රී ලංකා චීන මිතුදම” කෘතියේ පිටපතක් තිළිණ කරන ලදී.
